Science
In the area of plastics and chemistry the capital region boasts a unique concentration of scientific institutions. Numerous small and medium-sized enterprises seize the potential these institutions have to offer and thereby promote research and development themselves.
Renowned research institutes
Along the higher education institutions and universities there is a whole series of extramural research institutes, for example the institutes of the Max Planck Society, the Fraunhofer Society, the Helmholtz Society and the Leibniz Society. These institutions are actively engaged in many activities ranging from basic research to the development of utilisable products. Cooperation between the institutions and businesses can take on many forms and has to be, in general, adapted to the respective problems that are to be dealt with.
